Southern Womens League Team Report

Hemel Hempstead, Saturday 3rd September 2011

Our target for this match was 100 points which we failed to achieve, this was down to purely lack of numbers and as a result the team slipped to fourth from bottom of the Premier Division.  I would like to thank all who turned out, not just competing in their own events but offering to fill in where needed.  Despite this we were unable to compete in the 3000m, 300m hurdlres, high jump and triple jump and this cost us valuable points.
Alice competed in her usual sprint double with a fourth A string and a good second place B string.  Kirsten stepped in to run the B string 100m for a fourth place, then gave a great performance in her last 80m hurdles, winning the A race in style.  She then made her 1500m debut to finish fourth A string, sadly we had no B string runner for this race.
Corin continued her successful season with a second A string in both the 800m and 400m and then offered to run the A string 200m where she came away with a third place and a PB.  Amy teamed up with Corin in the 400m and 800m winning both her races and getting a PB in the 400m as well as a PB in the A string long jump.  Amy also offered to throw the javelin but was unable to do so due to an event clash.
Hayley covered the hurdle events, going well in the 400m hurdles for a good second place, followed by a third in the 100m hurdles, running close to her PB.  Again we had no B competitor in either event.  Hayley also offered to fill in on javelin, throwing just over 19m for a fourth place in the A string.
Kelly and Sarah continued their double act with great effect, Kelly came second in the A string pole vault with Sarah winning the B string.  These positions were repeated in the hammer competition, followed by a double fourth in the shot putt and a double third in the discus, well done ladies.
Again a big thank you to all who turned our for this last match of the season and thanks also to our officials and helpers throughout the season.  Next year there will be several additions to the team so hopefully we will be able to fill most, if not all events.
